We still haven't finished watching Vertigo, there's about 10 minutes left in the screening. On Tuesday we'll finish Vertigo and start Psycho. There will be a multiple choice quiz on Vertigo due Thursday February 2. Also, after screening both Hitchcock films a character comparison paper will be assigned due Tuesday February 7. This comparison paper asks you to select one character from each movie to compare and contrast (things like personality, motives, themes, etc.). Some helpful links to writing a comparison essay are listed below.

Have pages 104-113 from your text book read (its about Citizen Kane) for 1/17/2012.

There will also be a film journal/notebook check on Tuesday, so bring all your notes to class!

And, finally, write a one to two page 'screening report' on Battleship Potempkin. It should be typed and printed to be turned in on Tuesday 1/17/2012.

The screening report tends to be mainly descriptive, although you can also express an opinion about what is interesting or valuable about the movie; this makes your evaluation of the film central. It is essentially a judgment about the quality of the movie, backed up with enough information to indicate that your judgment is based on good reasons. Include ideas and vocabulary we've discussed in class and from your reading as well.
